1992 to date: Genesis Business Development Services (own company)
Working with clients predominantly within the automotive sector.
2003 – 07: Cromtryck
AB (Sweden). Leading supplier of emblems (exterior
badge inserts,
steering wheel airbag emblems etc.) to
the automotive sector worldwide. Providing
customer support services together with continued assistance with transfer of
production from Sweden to the Czech Republic.
1997 – 03: Chrome Print Ltd – UK subsidiary of Cromtryck Group (Sweden).
Initially involved in restructuring the management
and then took over the running of the
company as General
Manager in September 1997 and subsequently as Managing
Director
in August 2000. In November 2002, the company moved its
manufacturing
operations to a new facility in the Czech Republic. Together with a newly appointed
Czech General Manager, I was responsible for setting up the new facility which
involved moving all production from the UK and also a main part of production from
our
sister company Cromtryck AB in Sweden.
1994 – 97: BMW (UK) Ltd Worked on various projects in support of the UK purchasing
office
in an initiative to evaluate and support potential new OE suppliers in the UK on
specific
projects which included groundwork for BMW’s subsequent F1
programme.
1989 – 1992: European Components Corporation - European subsidiary of Takata Corporation
of Japan. Located
in Belfast, Northern Ireland. (Prior
to Takata acquisition in 1998, the
company then known as Fischer Body Overseas Corporation, was wholly
owned by
General Motors supplying
vehicle safety restraint systems, window
regulators and door latches
to GM plants across Europe). Takata
is the leading supplier of restraint systems to OEM’s in
Japan. Having already established a sound foothold in
North America, this acquisition was the
start of a similar drive into Europe.
Invited to join a new executive management team as:
European Sales and Marketing Director
· Established new offices on UK mainland (Milton Keynes) for co-ordination of European
sales and marketing activities.
· Introduced systems
and infrastructure to comply with demands of a multi-customer
base and established strong interface with product and production
engineering
functions in Europe and Japan.
· Developed a strategy
to achieve substantial sales growth by integration of Takata
products and expansion of customer
base (400% over 5 years).
1976 – 1989: Monroe Europe (UK) Ltd – formerly Armstrong Patents Co Ltd, a leading 1st tier
supplier of vehicle suspension components worldwide.
1982 – 89: General Manager, OE Sales and Marketing
Promoted as a result of restructuring to head up worldwide OE sales and marketing.
· Reporting to MD with
a t/o of £30m.
· Maintained a strong
relationship with all customers, particularly Ford of Europe and the
Rover Group.
· Consolidated
position as leading supplier over broad customer base.
· Established strong links with major Japanese OEM’s in Japan and at their offices
in Europe.
· Secured
Nissan UK business.
· Secured
business to supply Isuzu direct in Japan.
· Secured 100% supply
status with Rover Group.
· Involved in detailed
negotiations with potential Japanese and North American joint
venture partners.
· Prepared strategic
plan to expand customer base and increase level of sales by more than
100% over a 3-year period.
· Active
member of Japan Group at SMMT and participated in a number of DTI sponsored
missions to Japan. Leader of mission in 1988.
1980 – 82: OE Sales Manager
Promotion. Reporting to Sales and Marketing Director with responsibility
for
European sales.
1977 – 80: Account Manager
Promotion. Reporting to OE
Sales Manager with responsibility for Ford of Europe
and all European export
sales.
1976 – 77: Account Executive
Recruited for this new position. Reporting to OE
Sales Manager and assisting with
export sales.
1973 – 1976:
Automotive Products Ltd - a leading 1st tier supplier of
automotive brake, clutch
and suspension link components.
Sales Engineer
· Recruited to join
expanding team with emphasis on Germany during the latter
period.
· Reporting to an
Account Executive.
· Attended Berlitz
intensive German language course.
1966 – 1973:
Lucas Girling - a leading 1st tier supplier of automotive
braking systems.
1970 – 73: Design Engineer, Commercial Vehicle

Appointment followed completion of a Student Apprenticeship.
1966 – 70: Recruited as Student Apprentice, whilst continuing higher education
on
a “sandwich course” basis.
